Travel Tip Tuesday - "Staycation"

Photobucket

With the current economy you can't always plan a full-blown Disney vacation costing thousands of dollars, but that doesn't mean that you can't have a great time with your family.  It seems to be a very common term which you will hear on ad's for your State or Town along with local attractions.  They will tell you why you should stay home insread of traveling during your vacation time - and that is why they will call it a "staycation."  We try to choose day trips for 4 out of 7 days.  The other 3 days will be going to the pool or beach or possible hiking and picnicing at a local State Park.  When choosing a day trip I try to stay within two hours driving time, though depending on what we are doing I will go up to 2 1/2 or 3 hours.

Why choose a staycation?
The mean reason to choose a staycation over a traditional vacation is to save money.  Simply think about a week long vacation (7 nights) at an average of $100 per night for you hotel room.  You have immediately saved $700.  Add to that the fact that you won't have airline costs and you have just saved over $1,000.

In addition, I don't know about you but we go on a week long vacation and I am back to work just as worn out and tired I was when I left the week before.  We end up being on the go the entire time and you end you vacation knowing you have a great time, but not necessarily rested.  Well when you stay at home and do some day trips you can break up your week with a day at the pool or beach or a picnic at a State Park do this a couple of times during your staycation and you will end you week feeling relaxed and like you truly had a vacation.

I can also bet you that there are local activities / attractions that you say "That sound fun we should go there sometime" or "we had so much doing this last time - we should go there again".  We have these conversations all the time, but we never seem to have the free time to be able to do these things.  A staycation is a peferct time to visit new local attractions or visit some places that you have been to in the past and really enjoyed.
