I got an "F" on my couponing trip today...

I am not really what I would consider an "Extreme Couponer" but I am relatively good and generally save at least 75% to 100%. Even relatively savy couponers have a bad day sometimes.

I went to Walmart for two items (a) Schick disposable razors, priced at $1.97 with $2.00 off coupons and (b) Bic pens, priced at $0.97 with $1.00 off coupons. I planned to buy 10 of each and my whole trip would have been free. The razors were going in our donation box that we put together for the troops and then pens were partially for home use, with the remainder being donated to school for teacher/office use.

So I head out with my 6 year old and we get to the razor isle to find that they are completely sold out of the Schick razors we wanted to buy - strike 1...we go to gravb the pens and they did have them so I had my trusty helper count out 10 for me and put them in the cart. I double checked the razor isle (and came to the same conclusion - sold out, so we headed to check out.

The woman scans our items and takes the Bic pen coupons. The coupon says "Only one coupon is redeemable per purchase on Bic stationary products". I interpreted that to be the standard one coupon per item as stated on many coupons. She interpreted it to be one coupon per transaction. I pushed back a bit, but she disagreed with my rationale so I asked her to cancel the order and I would take one. I actually planned to do a couple transactions and get two or three but we didn't get that far.

She called her manager over to void the order, rescanned one item and scanned the coupon. It beeped and would work. The coupon was not expired and stated that it was for any 1 Bic Stationary product and actual had a picture of the specific pen packs that I was buying. She agreed that the coupon should work and that she didn't know why it wasn't scanning correctly. Then she went on to tell me what a fiasco I wass causing for a couple of pens.

I was furious, there was no line that I was holding up and this coupon was 100% valid. Normally I would have had her call her manager over who would have agreed that the coupon was valid and probably would have agreed that I could buy all 10 as well. However, as I said I had my 6 year old with me and I really didn't need the pens bad enough to wait to call a manager. So I left Walmart empty handed.

I will go back to Walmart and get both my razors and pens tomorrow or some day during the week, but today was one sad couponing day for me. I guess all couponers have a bad day sometimes!!!

Now it's your turn...tell me about your coupon fails!!!

Valentines Crafts: Heart Stamps

I have been searching for ideas for Valentines crafts to do with my little guys. The 6 year old is easier, but I was having trouble coming up with ideas for the 2 year old.

I came across a great (and super affordable) idea on rustsunshine.

All you need is:
An empty toilet paper roll
A little Paint
Blank cards/cardstock or construction paper

Flatten out the toilet paper roll and then form into a heat shape....wrap a piece of tape around it to hold it in place.

Put a small amount of paint on a plate and dip the heart shapped toilet paper roll into the paint.

Hand it to your little one and let them have fun.

This is a great idea for Valentines cards for family members. Check out rustsunshine for all the info!!!

Rainbow Shaving Cream Bath Paint

I have been looking for fun bathtime ideas and came across this post for Shaving Cream Bath Paint...I can't believe that I never thought of this.
What you'll need:
foaming shaving cream
food coloring
container - Try a muffin tin
paint brushes

*Added benefit for the couponing parents out there...you probably have a stockpile of free or almost free shaving cream, so that makes the cost almost nothing.

My concern, along with many other commenters on the blog post (linked above) was if the food coloring will stain your bathtub/grout. It appears that if using only a drop or so of food coloring there is no staining. Though I would suggest you do a quick test before letting your kids go crazy with it. I plan to do the same when I do this at bath time.

I hope that your little ones love this...I know mine will!!!

I NEED a Blue VTech Innotab

I have literally spent most of this week looking for a Blue VTech Innotab. My husbands Uncle got my 6 year old one for Christmas but mistakenly bought the purple one. My son was very gracious and said that he would keep the purple one, but I know that he would eventually be upset that he didn't have the blue one so we have been searching online and calling stores all week to try to track one down.

The issue that I am having is that some stores, specifically Target (which I love by the way) show that they are in stock at many local stores when you look online, but when you call the store they say "the system is 24 hours behind in updating and they are out of stock." Now that wouldn't be a problem except it is now 3 days since they said that and I am still seeing online that they are labeled as "in stock".

Now tomorrow morning, I will be going to Target to check and see if they actually have the product in stock. I wouldn't mind, except for the fact that the reason they have this option available online is so that you know when a product is in stock at the store and now I will be heading in there with no idea if I will actually find the product on the shelf.

If this doesn't work we will just give up on the stores and order it online directly from VTech.

- Wish me Luck Tomorrow!!!
